Float Hooks: The Journey From Inspiration to the Surf.

I was inspired to design the float hooks after seeing many videos of pompano and other fish striking floats, but missing the hook. There were many variations of DIY float hooks that I studied online and many of them worked well, but they all seemed to have some flaws. Flaws such as durability, being too large and closing the hook gap, not staying in place on the shaft of the hook, not being large enough to actually float, etc. After brainstorming and a few of my own homemade prototypes made with a 3D printer, I thought addressed these issues. The problem with the final prototype was that it could not reasonably be scaled up for mass production. Then after collaborating with a few other anglers, I reached out to some float manufacturers with a design proposal. After discussing the design with many manufacturers I was finally able to find one that would work with me to use American made Eagle Claw hooks and attach a hard foam float molded directly to the shaft of the hook. So, after about 9 months of work I received the final product. The journey is not over though. The final step is to introduce what I believe is an innovative product to the surf fishing world and for it to be adopted into the surf fishing arsenals of many anglers as a new tool to help them catch more fish.
